Weekly Review

Last week saw Celtic go level on points with Rangers in the SPL, with a storming performance against Motherwell, and a 1-0 victory over Hearts on Saturday.

On Wednesday night, the task was simple - beat Motherwell at Fir Park by four goals to nil and go top of the SPL on goal difference. We asked for the players to do the business and they done it in style, against a team of thugs in Motherwell shirts.

It's no surprise to me that Motherwell FC have the worst disciplinary record in the league, and they deserve whatever fine they get at the end of the season. Two goals each from Paul Lambert and Stan Petrov secured a rampant victory, and the Bhoys were top of the league for the first time in 2003.

There was alot of media speculation that Martin O'Neill was on his way out of Celtic at the end of the season, as it was revealed that he hadn't signed the one year, rolling contract which was agreed back in February. Personally, I seen this as no big deal, as Martin O'Neill used to operate this way while at Leicester City, and is quite happy to agree terms on a handshake. O'Neill obviously did not expect the media's over-reaction and signed the contract on Friday morning - case closed.

The Hoops took the chance to open the gap at the top of the SPL to 3 points, with a victory over a determined and dirty Hearts side at Parkhead. Alan Thompson was the goalscorer from the penalty spot, but Rangers resumed first place with a 4-0 victory over a poor, poor Kilmarnock side, who never even had an attempt at goal in the whole game. Somehow though, I feel they will be a different side against us at Rugby Park next week.

Last week's poll result was just over 50% of voters felt that Celtic's Ticket distribution for Seville has been unfair. 36% thought it was fair, while 13% don't need a ticket anyway - they're only going for the party!

This week's poll asks readers 'Can Celtic still win the league?' The results will be shown on the Weekly Review next Monday.

So it's Dundee at Parkhead on Wednesday night, and another chance for us to go top of the league, as well as get a few goals. Dundee will be a hard side to beat but Celtic have the quality to do so, and if we are are serious about winning this title we should be able to beat them.

I was at Celtic Park today, collecting tickets for Seville and there were several players in to get some treatment on knocks. Alan Thompson is said to be okay for Seville but doubtful for Wednesday, while John Hartson told me his back is "much better" and he hopes to be fit for Dundee.

So the final game before Seville will need to be a victory or we can say goodbye to the league. With Seville in mind it will be vital not to pick up any daft injuries.
