Virgo - "I Was Never Given a Chance at Celtic"

Adam Virgo has today launched an astonishing attack on Celtic stating that he was never given a fair chance, that Celtic never did enough to help him settle in and that the Club never helped him after the death of his father.

This is in stark contrast to the comments the player made relating to the Club just last week in which he stated that he felt his failure at Celtic was the product of injury.

Fast forward a week and this is what he has to say, "I was signed as a centre-half and I certainly didn't get the chance to play there," he said. "I was asked to play right-back and centre-forward and was only given a couple of opportunities at centre-half. I was also unlucky with injury and circumstances outwith my control, but on a football front I never felt I was given a fair crack at it.

"I didn't get a regular run at centre-half. I was shipped from pillar to post and I accepted it for the sake of the team. Look at other Celtic players; Mo Camara was given something like 13 games before he was left out, while Kenny Miller was also given something like 17 games before he got his first goal.

"If I had been given 10 games in the centre of defence and I hadn't been good enough I would have accepted that, but I was never given that chance."

"I am deeply disappointed with the way things went for me at Celtic," he said.

"It was hard, especially with the injury and the everything that happened in the first few months. I also had the loss of my father.

"I felt Celtic could have done more to help me settle in and especially after I had lost my Dad."

It would appear that his comments read like a tale of two cities, on one hand we have his gracious comments for the Glaswegian audience and then we have the less gracious "it wasn't my fault - I never got a chance - big bhoys made me do it speech"

For what it is worth, he does have a point when he speaks of other players that got more of a chance but the fact of the matter was that he was not good enough to dislodge the players who occupied the central defensive positions.

When he was given a chance it was in other positions, but he showed little effort when he did get his chance. Yes players like Mo Camara and Kenny Miller did get chances, but although they didn't display the talent required to make it at a big club like Celtic, they certainly gave it their all. Is that something that you can say Adam?
