"If you just close your eyes for a second and thank God for giving us our club back.""...this is what it means to play for Celtic, the fans. God bless every last one of them" Tommy After the last home game of season 96-97 against Raith Rovers

"What these players have to realise, is that when you put on the Celtic jersey you're not playing for a football team, you're playing for a community and a cause" Tommy speaking circa 1996.

"God bless each and every one of them" - Tommy after Celtic's Scottish Cup victory in the Centenary season.

"We were in the Scotland camp and Tommy knew that I hadn't been enjoying the best of seasons because of Rangers' results and the injury problems I'd been having with my ankle," Ferguson said.
"Tommy came to me and said, 'You're a good player - too good a player not to get through this spell'. You have to appreciate that kind of human touch." Barry Ferguson - Rangers Captain

"I wanted to go out with a smile on my face and not a tear in my eye," said Burns. "So I got all of my crying out of the way during the warm-up.
"I ran about the pitch for 20 minutes with tears running down my cheeks because I knew I would never wear a Celtic jersey again." Tommy speaks after his final Celtic appearance in the friendly V Ajax

"Tommy wasn't just a great player and a great coach, he was a really wonderful man. He loved Celtic deeply, but more than anything he cared about people. Along with everyone who knew him I've been left with some great memories of Tommy.
"As far as football was concerned he was very knowledgeable about the game and he always wanted it to be played in a positive and entertaining way. His heart was totally at Celtic and he would have done anything for the club.
"He always had time for people and was interested in people. He was a passionate man and cared deeply about things. And he was always somebody you could talk to and know you would get good advice. I feel so sorry for all who knew him. They have lost this fine man but I'm sure he won't ever be forgotten."
Henrik Larsson

"The first half was the best you could see in European football. Two teams attacking, two teams scoring goals. What else do the people want to see? In the Celtic team I liked the red-haired man, Burns. The boy McStay is also good. The fans were so good. They stayed to cheer us, and I shall always remember that. It meant we had entertained -- that is what I wanted."
-- Johan Cruyff, speaking about Celtic 2-2 Ajax, 15 September 1982

"I am deeply saddened to hear of Tommy's death. I pray for the repose of his soul and for strength for his wife Rosemary and their children.
"Tommy had a fine career and every Celtic supporter and Scottish football fan will have their own special memories of a man whose life was dedicated to his family, to the game of football and in particular to Celtic Football Club. Those memories will live on.
More importantly, we have lost one of this club's favourite sons". - Fergus McCann

"If you define Celtic and a Celtic man, Tommy Burns fitted the bill. He was a wonderful human being. I think in life you only met a few special people. Tommy was certainly that."Peter Lawwell

We'll all know how lucky we are that Tommy was part of our life,". "Every time he walked into a room you felt better. The best part of my coming to Celtic, above anything else, has been being able to call Tommy Burns my friend. I'm missing him as badly as I'll ever miss anyone." Gordon Strachan - Celtic Manager

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said he was "deeply saddened" to hear of Burns' death. He said: "His death robs Scottish football of one of its most inspirational figures of modern times and one of the nicest people in football."

May you rest in eternal peace Tommy.

Yours in Celtic
