THE NATIONWIDE - CHAIRMAN QUINN SPEAKS

Celtic Chairman Brian Quinn has spoken out on the rumours that Celtic are ready to jump ship to the English Nationwide league next season following talks with the League's chairman:

"We think that, in the circumstances, these talks were the only sensible and constructive thing to do. I would add, though, that this move would not merely be to the benefit of Celtic and Rangers but to Scottish football as a whole," said Mr Quinn.

"We have always maintained that we would never abandon Scottish football," he added, referring to possible compensation for the remaining Scottish Premier League clubs."

Quinn also made it clear that whilst there are Uefa rules that would block the club's path to England, they were in no way set in stone:

"You may remember the concepts of the European and Atlantic Leagues a few years ago. We had talks about leaving Scotland at that time and we found out the nature of the Uefa statutes then."

It would seem that Celtic have taken the lead in this project and we could be in for a very interesting summer as all parties involved have their say.
