The Lisbon Lemmings

Celtic Lost to Benfica tonight with a performance that will surely feature on Sky sports Christmas "funnies" programme.

Gary Caldwell started the hilarity by putting the ball into his own net when trying to clear a difficult cross and then had the Benfica players in fits of laughter as he lost the ball in the floodlights and let it hit off his nose in a perfect pass to the amazed Benfica forward who gratefully tapped it into the net.

Stephen Pearson after being slated at the weekend against Kilmarnock for not using his right foot to score then did exactly the same thing and missed a great opportunity to score because once again he tried to shift the ball onto his left leg. Surely a half hour now and again in training practicing tap ins with his weaker foot would pay dividends for Pearson.

Celtic Never got going in the second half and although the massive Celtic support sang their hearts out as they always do the team did not respond and got worse as the game progressed. Gary Caldwell topped of his effort to get the comedian of the yeqar award by allowing the ball to go through his legs to Karyaka who scored Benfica's third after 75 minutes.

Celtic tried to limit the damage in the last ten minutes but remained ragged as Benfica gave them a footballing lesson.

Celtic can take NO positives from this game and the group is once again wide open.

The Celtic support however proved once again they are truly the greatest fans in the world by singing non stop throughout the game. Celtic have still never won a Champions League game away from home and we can only hope that we can change that in Copenhagen and even though we are bitterly dissapointed we just dont turn into a bad team overnight and we can surely rally for the next two games and play football the Glasgow Celtic way.
