Street wise, Media wise Celtic?

Last updated : 31 May 2006 By GWG
Has anyone noticed the change of approach from Celtic regarding how they do business in the everyday life of running a football club?. Celtic have become wtreet wise when dealing with the media frenzy of the Fourth estate.
Gone are the days, when directors of football would swan off to the likes of La Manga to watch tournaments, (mainly of the golfing kind) and leave inept novice managers to deal with the ever so sharp press that would shred Their every word into columns of negative print.
Gone are the days, when the football manager would spend four of his working days at home in Stockport or wherever, and only turn up on match days, mainly to spend his time talking to bookmakers on the phone, then leave to return home, forgetting to hang the phone up.
Gone are the days, when backroom staff would prop up the bars at various licensed premises, talking to anyone who would provide more alcohol than their brains could calculate.
Gone are the days, when players would work the oracle by proclaiming they were too good for Celtic, and were worthy of bigger and better contracts only to be found out at the other clubs they went to.
Gone are the days, when Glasgow Celtic FC had more leaks to the media than all the Water Companies in the uk put together.
Gone are the Decades, when Celtic had to be on the defensive every day in the week, Celtic now hold all the high cards when dealing with the people who but a few years ago would have gladly sent the club into oblivion.
Step forward the Peter Lawell business machine. If ever a man deserved praise it is Lawell. He has, since his appointment as Chief Executive made Celtic into a business to be reckoned with, at home and overseas. Lawell has been the driving force behind every deal for Celtic, be it in the transfer market or media rights, sponsorship, the progress of the long awaited and overdue Youth Academy, Peter Lawell in his short tenure has turned Celtic into a mean lean business machine.
Lawell who is a former Chief Executive of (Mining Scotland) and commercial Director of the Ports Authority ( Clydeport) is nobodies fool, he knows his business and is a 24 hour a day workaholic even combining his well earned vacations with business opportunities on behalf of Celtic He is the kind of boss that any football manager would die for, completely loyal to his staff, straight talking, and has a business brain as sharp as a tack, it's no wonder when in a recent press conference when Gordon Strachan was being asked a loaded question he replied "Are you calling us liars, are you calling Peter a liar" the Scottish press have learned to back off from Lawell and indeed manager Strachan, The Celtic Machine is now geared for the 21st century. meddle if you dare!!

Item Submitted from GWG. What to you think Of Lawell and they Way Celtic are set up?
