Strachan Refers To Last Five Games as Catalyst for Season to Forget

Celtic Manager Gordon Strachan believes that Celtic should be looking toward a healthier position in the League and a Scottish Cup semi-final appearance if they had reaped the rewards that some of the recent performances had deserved.

"Overall, there's absolutely no doubt that we should have won our last five games," he said. "Anyone with any sense of fairness would agree with that. That's not skipping around anything. I'm having difficulty explaining the results to players and they are all sitting scratching their heads.

"The consoling factor for me at the moment is that I can go on to the training ground on a Monday and say, 'I like working with you guys. You are all good football players and you are doing a lot of things right'. Unfortunately at this moment in time we're not winning games."

Strachan has been under pressure from the support, and in recent times his relationship with top striker Scott McDonald, who expressed his disgust at being subbed at the weekends defeat by Motherwell. The diminutive Antipodean has since apologised for his display of petulance and has stated that the manager has his fullest backing.

"I'm 150 per cent behind my manager and everyone at the club," said Celtic's top scorer. "The gaffer signed me and has a lot of faith in me and believes in my ability. I put my hand up and apologised for what some might call my petulance."

A strong finish in the remaining games may inspire a little more confidence in the team from the support and may even show that our season was not in vain if other results go our way, but from a realistic point of view it is time for us to consolidate, lick our wounds and get ready to come back even stronger. From a more romantic point of view, let's finish strong, win every match and snatch away our title from the clutches of evil!

Yours in Celtic
