Strachan on Signings, Boruc, O'Dea and the Rangers Game

Gordon Strachan has today hinted that there may be no new faces arriving at Celtic Park before the close of the transfer window on Monday - despite comments to the contrary from Chief Executive Peter Lawwell in Monte Carlo on Thursday.

He said: "It doesn't look great. I wouldn't get too excited if I was a Celtic supporter. Things have not materialised the way we would have liked.

"I thought there might have been something but circumstances have changed, unless something jumps out at you which is what happens at this time of the year.

"Someone you asked about who was s4million a couple of months ago will be thrown at you and you will asked if you want to take him on loan. You have to decide if it is worth it or not."

Strachan also spoke out regarding the incident that saw Celtic Keeper Artur Boruc dropped from international duty, stating "I've spoken with Artur and the content of that discussion will remain private.

"I'm not saying there's been a lack of discipline within the squad but sometimes players lose their way and the manager has to do something.

"Artur was outstanding against Falkirk and his attitude in training has been first class."

In other words, the player made a mistake, he has been fined £50,000 and the matter is now closed. I for the life of me cannot figure why a news story that broke 3 weeks ago is still news worthy now? Why would the press continue to ask for comments on an issue that ius now closed? Is there a big game coming?

Speaking of big games, before Celtic get unleashed on Aalborg in their opening Champions League fixture first we have to concentrate on the domestic game and the visits of some Scottish non-entities to Parkhead followed by their racially intolerant support - who have been warned not to sign one of their new ditties at Parkhead.

The song "The famine is over - why don't you go home" has been excused by many a Rangers fan as being a wind up to Celtic supporters who think they are more Irish than Scottish. And this excuse is always followed up by the description "plastic paddies"! Quite how anyone can try and pass of this song as unoffensive whilst using a racially stereotypical term like that is beyond me?

On the upcoming match with the Govan Minnows the boss had this to say:

"You have to enjoy these occasions. The hype, the tension and the apprehension are all part of the enjoyment before the match. But all of that is just propaganda once the game starts.

"When it's all over, I go straight home and no one sees me for the next two days, regardless of whether we've won or lost. All games are a draining experience but the Old Firm is even more draining than the rest."

Wise words Gordon, apart from the use of the term "Old firm"!

Yours in Celtic
