Strachan Meets with SPL Managers at Elite Coaching Forum

Gordon Strachan has revealed that the SPL Coaching Forum meetings held at Gleneagles last weekend are a good opportunity for managers to meet outwith the stresses of competition but has stated that these meetings can be a tad "strange".

All 12 SPL managers meet once a year alongside Lex gold and Andy Roxburgh to discuss coaching issues and to share good practice.

Strachan stated "A lot of it was about the Champions League and what trends we saw and different training sessions we witnessed. We then spoke about how it could affect our football here and ask if we are using these different trends to our advantage."

Obviously Walter Smith would have been unable to comment on such matters this season!

"It was great to get together with all the managers, because after games you find yourself in a strange situation. If you have won you don't want to be patronising. If you get beaten you have to try and keep a face on while you are raging about getting beaten - so it's never a level playing field when you meet up."

"We sat and talked about things, laughed about things, about different players and what you have to deal with the problems players give you. You end up finding that we all have the same problems: we all have the same stories, just different faces and different names."

It really is strange to imagine all of these managers sitting round a table sipping tea and eating cucumber sandwiches whilst discussing issues relevant to the game in Scotland, but I am sure it must be a worthwhile endeavour.

Let's hope that Gordon didn't share too much good practice!
