Strachan - "Special Moments" Required for Celts to Dump United

Gordon Strachan is not getting carried away by the news that Man Utd will be without 3 first team players for tomorrows match, he still feels it will take something special to beat the Champions of Europe.

"There will have to be special moments from our players to score, unless we get a freak goal." Said the Ginger Genius. "There might have to be a special goalkeeping performance as well."

"Hopefully, we don't have to rely on that. Ideally, we'll rely on the team to get us into good positions. There has to be special performances though, but that might even come in defence.

"Most people know the difficulty we face against United. They know we're underdogs and they are coming to see great players from Man United. At the same time, they want to see us win. If they can get to see good players and we end up with a result? Great. We'll try to give them that.

"First, we have to perform. Then we need a bit of luck and we need our players performing to their maximum. The result then takes care of itself.

"We have to be careful with our passing, we have to get close to players and when we get the ball, we have to give them a problem."

Had the Manager had all striking options available to him then he may have been a little more optimistic, but with only one recognised first pick striker available to him in the out of form Scott McDonald the Manager is having to consider giving young Cillian Sheridan a chance.

He said: "We're still struggling in the striking department, but we'll do our best to score goals. It won't be easy. Even if we had all our strikers available, it wouldn't be easy for us. But we'll try.

"Cillian has done well for us. I felt he gave us a good presence against Hearts on Sunday, but we have to remember that he's very young in football terms. He's 19 but he's probably only 17 in terms of experience and football knowledge. He hasn't even played 20 full games for the reserves.

"We need to be careful with Cillian. We didn't think it was right for him to play at Old Trafford, and we'll make a decision on him tomorrow night.

I think that Strachan could do a lot worse than consider starting with Sheridan. What he lacks in experience he makes up for in effort and he does offer something that Scott McDonald doesn't - An out ball!

Yours in Celtic
