Stan and the Armband

Last updated : 13 July 2006 By K Kerr
Stillian Petrov seems to have sealed his fate with the clubs supporters after he refused to take the captains armband during this mornings game with DC United. Petrov was handed the armband by Lennon but refused to wear it. TV viewers at first thought that Petrov was given the armband to pass across to Stephen McManus but news from the Celtic camp is that Petrov was in fact given the armband just like he would have been given it all last season but the decision to hand it to McManus was his and the other players are seemingly disgusted at this gesture.

The Celtic captaincy is what many supporters dream of and for Petrov to insult the privilidge is unacceptable to the support.

Most people watching the game both Live and on Television saw Petrov handing the armband over and decided he was told to pass it on, It never crossed our minds that someone could actually refuse such an honour. The Celtic players however are disgusted at Petrov and have not been slow to let people know that they see the gesture as unacceptable and sympathy for the player and his circumstances is fading fast.

What was your take on the situation?. Did Stan go in a huff or did he simply think that McManus deserved the captaincy?.  Our messageboard links are now Live
