Spoiled Rotten Celtic Fans

I attended my first match at Parkhead in 1951.

For years I went with my father to see Celtic, the excitement of going to the game enough for me as a kid.

Although I did know that getting to a Cup Final was a big deal, I had no awareness of what winning a league meant.

It was just as well. When it came to winning leagues Celtic were mince; not at the races.

The Coronation Cup and the League Cup Final win in 1957 notwithstanding, it wasn't until 1965/6 season when Jock Stein took over the reins did Celtic supporters get used to winning big.

Nine titles in a row, the European Cup, and many other trophies.

Unfortunately, we became Spoiled Rotten and many Celtic fans thought this would go on forever, but we all know it didn't, nothing ever does.

We went through the painful years where Rangers were dominant, mainly because of profligate spending it's true, money they really couldn't afford to spend and are suffering for now, and they too became spoiled and thought it would go on forever, but it didn't, because nothing ever does.

When Martin O'Neill took over and we began to dominate again, I was sure we would not repeat the mistake of thinking it would last forever, we would remember from our mistakes during our nine in a row years, that we would be a bit more grateful this time.

But we haven't; we think it will go on forever, but it won't because it never does.

When Martin left I thought we just might go into a bit of a slump.

Given the depleted squad O'Neill left, I thought it would be a really hard job for the next manager.

I was pleasantly surprised when new man Gordon Strachan, after a shaky start, brought his own players in and we actually won the league....and the League Cup.

This season again we have won the League and the Scottish Cup to boot, although I do accept the team have not played the silky football we would all like to see. Not since the first half against Rangers at Parkhead anyway.

We should remember we did win the league, and with a team which will be broken up and replaced with younger players for the start of the new season.

Scott McDonald and Scott Brown are just the start of this process.

In spite of this we have a new generation of Spoiled Rotten supporters calling for Strachan's head.

Be careful of what you wish for.

You might get it.
