Skippy Thanks Manager for Helping Him to Shoot for Glory

Scott McDonald has stated that he owes a lot to Manager Gordon Strachan after the Ginger Genius helped him through his first season at Celtic Park.

McDonald was the top goal scorer last season but a prolonged dry spell towards the end of the season threatened to ruin the Australians debut season and also derail Celtic's title ambitions until the Manager intervened and gave Scott the benefit of his experience.

"What got me through the dry spell was a conversation I had with the manager. He told me being with a club of Celtic's size was about the individual's ability to handle the highs and lows that inevitably come your way.

"He told me to relax more and he still had full belief in my capabilities. That talk helped me block everything out and focus once again."

McDonald has also revealed that he is focused on not only repeating his scoring exploits of last season but exceeding them and he is prepared to cut short his holiday time to do so.

"I need to whet my appetite for a new season and come back with the confidence I had that I could score in every game last season.

"There will be even higher expectations where I'm concerned. That's why I'll probably forget about the holiday bonus time given to players who were on international duty.

"The squad reports back for training on July 4 and I think I'll come back then too because I don't like to miss anything that's going on.

Now that is devotion for you isn't it? Coming back early from holiday in order to perform better at your job is exactly the type of commitment that I would expect from a player like Scott, and hopefully a few others will follow suit.

Yours in Celtic
