SFA MASSAGE FIXTURES TO AVOID RANGERS EMBARRASMENT

The SPL are planning to move the date of the final Old Firm league encounter to avoid Rangers having to travel to Celtic Park on what could be the day Celtic wrap up two in a row.

Initially, the Old Firm game was pencilled in for the first game after the league split but now the SPL are planning to change that under the guise of not wanting a repeat of the scenes that marred the 1999 league decider at Celtic Park.

An SPL spokesman commented last night:

"After Sunday's 1-1 Old Firm draw at Ibrox the SPL are currently re-examining ways of avoiding a recurrence of this situation.

"Therefore after the top six-bottom six places are decided we will take a decision on the scheduling the Old Firm match.

"Among the possibilities being mooted is moving the fixture to either the second or third match after the split in the likely event the first game after the split is a league decider.

"No decision can be taken until we know exactly which teams are in the top six of the SPL."

Despite the fact that many supporters will have made advanced travel plans to attend the game on the original date the SPL seemed determined to move the fixture to meet their own ends.

Once again it is the long suffering fans who will bear the brunt of this spectacular piece of administrative incompetence.
