Scott Brown on his Celtic love affair

Last updated : 19 July 2007 By Clydebuilt

Scott Brown has never been known as a party animal, but like many men his age he enjoys to kick back and relax with his mates but Brown is willing to put all that behind him in order to be a success at Celtic. Reading between the lines this may have been inspired by the failure of a certain ex-team mate of his to set the heather alight since moving to the Champions. I.e. the one who is known to enjoy a sherbet and a pub ruckus or two.

Speaking of his social life Scott said, "I stay in every week - I couldn't actually tell you what Glasgow or Edinburgh is like. It's not something I was told to do or anything like that, it's my choice."

Brown has decided not to move through to Glasgow so that no changes in his life off the field can affect his life on it. "I'll not be moving to Glasgow, Brown sternly stated. I want to remain nice and quite so nothing happens in Glasgow for me. I enjoy Edinburgh and I enjoy the ins and outs of the town. It's close to my family and my girlfriend's too so it's fine, but I spoke to a few of the lads and they say they don't really go out much anyway. That suits me fine."

Brown has had few problems being accepted by the Celtic support, especially since he snubbed the Darkside to join the club in the largest transfer between two Scottish Clubs.

This was shown with the reaction that he got when he scored against Celtic at Easter Road at the end of the season and also the adulation he received when he scored against Q.P.R at the weekend. It would appear that the feeling is mutual.

"I hope the supporters have taken an immediate liking to me - I've certainly taken a liking to them because they've been great since I've come to the club, Brown beamed.
I don't know how many fans we had down in London for the QPR game but it's quite scary when you see the numbers who turn out.
It was good to get my first goal. Hopefully it's the first of many and not my first and last.
The gaffer spoke to us before the game and told us it wouldn't be like a friendly, that it would be tough, and he was spot on. He said they'd come out fighting.
The thing is we could do as well as we want in pre-season but it's when it starts against Kilmarnock in the first day we've got to go out and prove ourselves yet again."

Brown also extolled the virtues of the welcome that has been thrown down to him by his new team-mates "All the lads have made me feel welcome, they've been phenomenal.
If they're doing anything I'm invited. Some of them play cards and they always ask me if I want to play. I don't, though, I just stand back and watch them."

The former Hibs midfielder has already struck up a decent relationship with former AC Milan player Donati. He feels he and the rest team will get even better when they get to know each others strengths and weaknesses.

"It's been good with Massimo, Brown insisted. He doesn't speak much English but when you're running past people with the ball you don't really need to. He wants to play football and that suits me because I want to do the same."
It would appear that ‘team three’ has also improved the level of football in the side and Brown is pivotal to this. He said: "We keep the ball on the deck and try and outplay teams.
The gaffer wants us to play football the right way - it's the way we do things in training.
Those suits me fine because every team I've ever played in I've tried to pass it.
The last thing I want is to be running over the top all the time, not getting a touch if the ball with it flying over my head.

"But everyone in the team feels the same because we can all pass it - it's not a problem.
The guys at the back like big John Kennedy, Stephen McManus and big Elvis are probably just as comfortable on the ball as anyone else is."

Brown admitted he is still get used to life at Celtic and it is something different to what he had been used to at Hibs.
They did most of their preparations in Scotland but Celtic have already been to Switzerland, England and have now set up camp in the States.

The new boy admitted: "It is a different world. At Hibs we would just train week in, week out but here we're off to America to play the MLS all stars. It's frightening because we're talking about the best 16 players in the States."

Here’s hoping that Brown and co. will be the best 16 players in Scotland come next May! Something tells me they might well be.

Yours in Celtic
