Robson Prepared to Play Anywhere in Team to Get a Game

Barry Robson has revealed why he ended up getting a starting berth in the left back position against Hamilton on Sunday, stating that doing his bit for the team is his main priority. A minor knock to Lee Naylor saw Robson reprise the position that he started his career in - left back.

Barry said "Lee was struggling with his back and the gaffer asked if I would play there," explained Robson.

"That was fine by me as I just want to do my bit for the team. That's the main thing.

"I'm quite confident though of getting a game in middle of the park. That's where I want to play.

"But if the manager needs me elsewhere, I'm happy to do that as well. It's quite straightforward for me."

This is good news for a Celtic team that is lacking in cover for the wide defensive positions. With no cover whatsoever for the position that Lee Naylor currently calls his own it is good that we have left-footed players who are attack minded and are capable not only of overlapping - but also delivering crosses that the forwards can attack as opposed to ones that the ball boys can attack!

I would only advocate playing Robson in this role however in the SPL. Quite a few times on Saturday you could see that Robson's main intention when challenging for the ball was to retain possession rather than clearing his lines. Hamilton did forge a chance from this in the first half and I would hope that Robson has learned his lesson. As admirable as winning the ball is, sometimes clearing your lines is more important!
