Riordan Looking to Pastures New?

Last updated : 05 November 2007 By Clydebuilt

In a unsubstantiated report today again bereft of any quote or source it is rumoured that Derek Riordan could be for the offski to Russia. Sky Sports has the following:

Riordan is seeking a move away from Celtic after growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities.

The 24-year-old has only started 12 games in all competitions since arriving at Parkhead from Hibernian in the summer of 2006.

Riordan expressed his desire to find a new club last week and the news has alerted a number of clubs to the forward's possible availability.

Celtic are thought to be willing to listen to offers for Riordan as Gordon Strachan says he does not want unsettled players at the club.

Lokomotiv and Nurnberg have held a long-term interest in Riordan and monitored his development during his time at Hibernian.

The duo could now rekindle their interest in the talented forward and make a move for his signature when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

Would it be inappropriate for Deek to go on trial at Nuremberg?

Quite when Gordon Strachan was quoted as saying "he does not want unsettled players at the club" escapes me and obviously the copywriter of this piece!

And so timdom now holds its breath to see what team Strachan will opt for in the CL match against Benfica, and more importantly what team members will turn up! I for one would opt for the same team that won at Rugby Park, but both JVOH and Jiri Jarosik had better turn up in this game. We all know that they can make an impact and it wouldn't be unjust of us to expect a return in a big game from our big game players.

I am ever hopeful that the team that displayed well at the weekend can lift their game to the levels we have become accustomed to on European nights. Come on Bhoys give us a show the Glasgow Celtic way!

Yours in Celtic
