Rangers £20million UEFA windfall

The Daily Ranger has the story this morning that our friends across the river have a tidy sum at their disposal following their Grind to Manchester Odyssey. With the Alan Mutton cheque already cashed, this would give them a sizeable transfer budget in which to strengthen their team.

I have to be honest and say this worries me.

After we left the Champions League the talk eminating from Celtic was of the commitment to allow us to progress past the last 16 stage. I must admit that I never truly bought this as I believe we would need 8 players of quality straight into our team to achieve this, and that for me is way above any budget we might be able to muster.

It will be crucial to our future happiness to not only match Rangers spending but to exceed it, we are in a position right now that unless they slip up they win the league, so we need to improve to match what we all think is a bad Rangers team, which shows how bad we have been at certain times this year.

Tomorrow we will be hoping for a Dundee Utd favour, but if I am honest I don't think they will be able to produce it, my main hope is Aberdeen up at Pittodrie, although I will be hoping I am wrong as I don't think our collective nerves could handle that. We have Hibs on Sunday and again last weeks performance will need to be totally surpassed or else we will kill ourselves off with no need of help from anyone else. Hibs will come at us as they always do and Strachan has called on the fans to provide a CL atmosphere because he knows we will need it.

Players are getting jittery like the rest of us, passes that were simple are now treacherous and full of title blowing potential, but that is the mark of champions, this is their first real challenge and a lot will be made of how they react to that challenge. To lose it, no matter how hard we fight, due to earlier atrocious form will provide absolutely no solace to me, we need to win the two games remaining and then have hope. Not an ideal end to a season that we require others to do us a favour but that is the bottom line. If we pull it off, it will be as sweet as a nut and the pain caused to our friends in the press and at work will make it even sweeter.

Valium ordered.
