The new STV Documentary looks as though it could be a valuable insight into the football of yesteryear - and not only for the footage on the show! Whilst working on an edition of the show relating to Celtic’s most famous day a previously unseen picture was unearthed – The team lining up just prior to kick-off.
And what a picture it is too! You could imagine the emotions that must have been going through the player’s minds that afternoon – from trepidation to nervousness, fear and anxiety to thoughts of what might be. Now you can see the emotion written on the players faces as they squint against the Lisbon sun.
However one state of mind that seems to be more prevalent across the team is calmness. From Bobby Murdoch’s hand-on-hips couldna gie a feck stare to Wispy Wallace’s cheeky grin it does appear that big Jock.
On seeing the photograph, Bobby Lennox remarked: “I can’t remember that. That is amazing." Team mate Tommy Gemmell has no recollection of the photograph at all, commenting: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen that photograph.”
