Pressure not the problem

Thomas Rogne insists the pressure to move 10 points clear at the top of the league was not the reason behind only managing to scramble a 1-1 draw at Hamilton. The Hoops could have been clear at the top of the table by double figures if they had won in midweek followed by a win over struggling Hibs at the weekend.  However, the best laid plans were thrown into disarray when Celtic had to come back from a first-half reverse to earn a last-gasp draw at New Douglas Park on Wednesday night when an Anthony Stokes penalty cancelled out Simon Mensing's opener.

Rogne said: "
We don't think about anyone but ourselves. We want the three points in every game. The only pressure we've got is what we put on ourselves. I think there should be pressure on a player to get three points in every game they play for Celtic. That should be a motivation, not something to get nervous about. Of course this result is disappointing but it's not a sprint, it's a marathon. Even if we drop a few points, we should come back from it. That's what we look forward to doing and to keep winning. It was a major incentive for us to go seven points clear and we didn't take it so that's disappointing. But we don't care about Rangers too much, it's all about us. We know that we can do better than this and that's what we are going to do."

Manager Neil Lennon did not endear himself to the SFA when he was highly critical of referee Willie Collum's performance after the game, claiming Celtic should have been awarded another penalty and that Martin Canning was in an offside position at the Hamilton goal. Rogne was more careful in his response to questions about the officials' performance. He said: "
When you are playing, you don't really see anything so I would need to see the pictures before I can say anything. What I've heard is that the first goal was offside. Maybe we should have had another penalty, I don't know. It's up to us, we created chances but didn't put an end product on it. We should have scored more goals and it was frustrating. It was a bad result for us. I think we played well but, in the end, it doesn't matter. We are not satisfied with the result. It doesn't feel a like a point gained. Of course we are happy about the equaliser but we were hoping for three points in this game. We have played well in the last few games so hopefully this game was just a one-time thing. We are already looking forward to the game against Hibs on Saturday."

Next up is the visit to Easter Road to face a side who, like Hamilton, are languishing at the wrong end of the table. Rogne said: "
We never underestimate teams, that is not what happened in this game. It was the same against Berwick Rangers at the weekend, we were very professional. We always know that teams want to beat us and we need to have exactly the same spirit, or even better, than them for us to win the game."
