Celtic coach Martin O'Neill has rected angrily to a reported approach to the club by the SFA over the services of Tommy Burns. Burns, who is currently youth development officer at Celtic Park, has been tipped widely to take over as assistant the Beri Vogts but according to O'Neill no official contact has been made to the club:

"Contrary to what has appeared, I've had no contact whatsoever with the
SFA," said O'Neill.

"I have had no contact about Tommy Burns' situation. Tommy Burns is under
contract here and if they want us then somebody should speak to us about it
in a proper fashion."

Ironically, the SFA, a ruling body that once fined Celtic 100, 000 pounds for "tapping " Burns to become the Celtic manager in 1994, have been conducting their approach to him through the media - a practce that they have crticised heavily in the past.
