No justice for McCourt

Paddy McCourt IPaddy McCourt scored the goal of the game on Saturday and once again opened the debate about his value to Celtic. McCourt nearly made it a full game but still had to arrive from the bench after nine minutes when Shaun Maloney had to limp off with an injury. McCourt was involved in Ki Sung-yueng's first-half goal and in the 65th minute he doubled the advantage over the visitors from the Highlands. The goal was even better than the one which won the points at Inverness on the opening day of the season. However, his contribution was not enough woeful defending resulted in the loss of two home points for the second week running. despite his influence on the scoreline, McCourt knows his struggle to persuade Neil Lennon that he has the capacity to be a 90-minute player will continue. Asked if his performance would have given Lennon food for thought with regards a starting berth, the winger said: "I have said it a million times, I hope so. But at the end of the day that's the manager's decision. I think I have played in most games this season either coming on or from the start. I'm quite happy with the way things have gone personally but I just think that we need to be mentally stronger and when things are not going well in the last 10 or 15 minutes of a game, we stay stronger and see games out."

Luxembourg referee Alain Hamer and his officials managed to perform without providing anything for the fans to complain about. This means that supporters turned their anger on their own players after finishing the game two points behind Rangers who now have a game in hand after today's game at Tannadice was postponed due to adverse weather. Lennon appears to have the same central defensive problems which frustrated his predecessor Tony Mowbray. The Parkhead manager started with three at the back in a bid to bring more solidity to his rearguard but replaced Jos Hooiveld after the break. However, the three points appeared to be safe following McCourt's goal, but slack play by Daniel Majstorovic and Thomas Rogne allowed Richie Foran to reduce the deficit. When Caley defender Grant Munro knocked in a deserved equaliser seven minutes from time after the home side failed to deal with a Jonny Hayes' corner, the boos rang round Celtic Park.
