No Cause for Panic Regarding Signings Says WGS

Gordon Strachan has today stated that Celtic will not panic-buy before the start of the new season. The Manager has stated that he will only purchase players who improve the squad, and that he will improve the players already on the books if new signings are not available.

Speaking to the Sunday Herald the Manager said: "We have now reached the last 16 of the Champions League two years running, which was a huge breakthrough for us," he said. "It shows we are developing and progressing as a club.

"To get that far we had to beat the likes of Benfica and AC Milan. And we lost only 1-0 at Barcelona with a back four which cost only £500,000.

"We are looking to strengthen again ahead of the new season if we possibly can but won't buy for the sake of it. If there is nothing out there then we will just try to improve the players we have already got so that we pick up more points that way."

This comment seems more engineered to say " We are active in the transfer market as I speak. We are giving the fannies in the press absolutely nothing so be patient" as opposed to the manager actually stating that there will be no signings before the start of the new season.

This is in stark contrast to last season where the bulk of the transfer activity was taken care of at the start of the season when Donati and Brown were recruited, but with a young squad of players that have played together well with a few different options in key areas the question is just how much surgery this team actually requires?

It could be argued that the only position that really needs attention is the left back position, as all other positions are at the very least capably occupied. Having said that though we do require to bolster positions and we cannot say with any level of accuracy if last seasons signings who never got accused of bracken pyromania last season will come good in the new campaign.
