Scott Brown - Boss Mowbray needs to know the extent of his injury problem
Dynamic midfielder Scott Brown, one of Scotland's star performers in the World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia and Holland, will see a specialist to try to pinpoint the exact nature of his ankle injury. Manager Tony Mowbray expects that the player will insist on playing but he want's a fuller assessment of Brown's condition as soon as possible.

"Scott's ankle isn't fine but is he okay for Dundee United? Well, that's a different question," said the Celtic boss. "There's a fair chance he might be. But for all our peace of minds I think we're going to have to get clarification on what Scott's problem is. It's dragging on too long."

"We've been discussing with the physios that he will go and see someone." he said. "But I don't think he's actually booked in yet. I just want clarification in my mind. It will just be a specialist having a look, there will probably be some scans taken, and then we will see what the best course of action is."

"Does he need rest? Is there anything we can do to help him?" continued the manager. "Or is there nothing we can do apart from letting the boy settle down and in a few weeks or so he'll be fine? I don't know. I won't sit here and say he's fantastic and 100%. But if it was a problem he wouldn't be training or playing, and he is. It's something I just want to clarify in my mind that he's not doing himself any more lasting permanent damage."

"I've got a responsibility to the boy as well and I'll make sure his current plight with his ankle is managed properly." Mowbray said. "If that means he needs to take a rest down the line, as that's what the advice is, I'll try to find the right way to do that. In the meantime I have to balance the boy not wanting to miss a game, take part in every training session and not miss anything against us needing him to be giving us that in March next year if we're still in a very tight league as it has been in the last few years."

"We have to be putting our best team out on the pitch and not missing one of our best players because we hammered him so early on." said the boss. "That's his personality, he wants to play and be involved. He's not going to tell me he's struggling whereas some other players would. I've got to make sure I'm getting the best out of the player. I'd rather have 100% of Scott Brown who's giving everything with that energy and drive that he possesses for X amount of percent of the season, rather than have him at 75% for the whole season, personally."
