Mixed Fortunes For Celts In Euro Games

Last updated : 19 June 2004 By Kevin Smith
It was a day of mixed emotions for Celtic players Henrik Larsson and Stan Petrov, in Portugal yesterday. Bulgaria were beaten 2-0 by Denmark, putting them out of the competition, while Henrik Larsson played in Sweden's 1-1 draw with Italy.

Bulgaria have shown themselves to be the poorest side in the tournament, despite having two or three good players. Denmark ran over the top of them yesterday, and Stan Petrov's frustration got the better of him, when he was red carded for shouting at the referee. Petrov will now be suspended for Bulgaria's last game, versus Italy.

Sweden, on the other hand, are looking like the favourites to progress into the Quarter Finals. A 1-1 draw with Italy last night puts them on level points at the top of their group with Denmark, who they will face next week. Henrik Larsson played well in last night's game, despite being moved back into midfield for most of the second half.

Most Celtic fans will now be cheering the Swedes on to European Glory, while a Bulgarian bonus for us is now we know Stan Petrov will not return home injured!
