McDonald: I watched Larsson do it now I'm living the Celtic dream

Scott McDonald's awesome goal against Manchester United in the recent Champions League encounter at Celtic Park was the realisation of a dream for the Celtic fan who had travelled to Seville to watch the team in the UEFA Cup final in 2003.

"A lot of it is instinct" he said when recounting the goal, "I had a picture of it just before the ball arrived. Gary's headed it and then it all happened so quick but my initial thought was just to chip and I was just so happy and grateful that it went in for everyone, for the team as well."

He has a few favourite goals from his time as a fan and his own strike will now stand amongst them "One that stands out was one of Henrik's in the UEFA Cup final in Seville where he headed it from the tightest angle" said Scott "He picked it up at the back stick and floated it and it just looked like there was no chance he could score from there. That was a special one."

Another that sticks in his mind was from that same UEFA Cup run "John Hartson's against Liverpool at Anfield was a spectacular goal" he said "That whole UEFA Cup run was something special. I watched every game in that run and went to a lot of the matches."

"Chris Sutton's volley against Juventus in the 4-3 game at Celtic Park is another. That was a wonderful game and an incredible finish." said the Aussie striker "My European nights are all fairly recent though, really since the Martin O'Neill era because they are the ones I've actually been to as a supporter since I've moved to Scotland."

Now his strike will live long in the memory of those who saw it and Scott is trying to adjust to the fact that his goal will now pass into Celtic folklore as one of the great European strikes alongside his own favourites. "I look back on it now, on the way I thought about goals like that as a fan" said McDonald.

"Goals from great players like Larsson, Sutton and Hartson, great, great players scoring goals on special nights." the Celtic striker said "To think that you are now a part of that and that other kids will be looking on that is something special and something I think that as a Celtic player you should really cherish and not take for granted. You are in such a wonderful and lucky position""
