Maloney transfer and injury update

Shaun Maloney has been given a month off by the club to have a hernia problem operated on in an effort to get the player back to full fitness. Maloney has been suffering from the problem for the last six weeks and Celtic have decided that the paleyer will not regain full fitness if he continues to nurse the injury and that the small operation would give Shaun the best chance of a quick recovery and return to first team.

Maloney however has been at the centre of controversy this week when it was revealed that the 23 year old star has not signed a new contract at Celtic and has only around 10 months left on his existing one. Celtic over the past year have actively signed or extended players contracts early but it is thought that Maloney has been stalling his contract talks with the view to a possible "Liam Miller" style payday in the English Premiership. Maloney has been changing agents recently and this would mean that his new agent would gain financially by moving his player to another club and Maloney although high in the plans of manager Strachan has not been a regular first team starter.
