Shaun Maloney interview:

"To be honest, I have forced my way back into the Scotland squad a lot quicker than I imagined I would. Being left out of the last squad hurt a lot. I watched the friendly against Northern Ireland on TV and was gutted not to be part of it.

"I had been on the fringes of the Scotland squad for a while, but I hadn't really been playing much or pushing that hard for a place in the starting XI. "It's great to know that the new gaffer wants me to be involved and I am delighted to be a part of the World Cup qualifying campaign."

"Coming back to Celtic has obviously made a big difference. I have a manager there in Gordon Strachan who seems to bring out the best in me. My confidence took a bit of a knock during my time at Aston Villa, but now I am really enjoying my football and am fully focused on doing well with Celtic and Scotland."

"The Iceland result was massive for us. The way we held on for the last 15 minutes or so was impressive. It was a great performance. The manager had a team in mind which he believed would be able to do a job against Iceland and thankfully that involved me as part of it. It was an attacking formation. We went with two wide players and both Kris Commons on the right and me on the left had to work hard. But everyone in the team, not just us, put in so much effort. I think it showed the togetherness we have and the belief we have in what George is trying to achieve here."

"We appreciated it was a poor result in Macedonia, but felt the performance was not as bad as a lot of people were making out. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But there was no way the criticism was going to affect the players. The boss got a lot of flak in the build-up to the Iceland game. We were delighted to get the result for him.

"Unfortunately, the criticism made Iceland a must-win game for us. Not that we were going to admit that was the case. That would have created added pressure. A draw in Iceland wasn't the end of the world, but to get a win under our belts was massive. We are in a healthy position after two away games. We can look forward to the game against Norway with renewed confidence. A win at home would build on the Iceland result. All the boys are confident we can do it."

"The recent Old Firm defeat was a real blow to the club. We go to Fir Park tomorrow for a difficult game against Motherwell, but we will certainly be looking to pick up all three points."
