Liverpool legend bets Celtic will progress in Europe

Celtic will claim their first away win in the Champions League group stage when they travel to Denmark says ex-Liverpool legend Jan Molby. With two games left to play the 2-2 home draw with Villarreal on Wednesday has Aalborg level on points with Celtic and that gives the Danes a chance of UEFA Cup qualification if they can beat the Bhoys. But Molby is pretty sure that won't happen.

"Everybody is billing the Aalborg game against Celtic as the one which decides who qualifies for the Uefa Cup. Back in Denmark we live in hope." he says "But if I was a betting man, my money would head over to Scotland. I know Celtic's record away from home isn't great, but I think they will win this one because Aalborg are not doing at all well domestically.

"They have found a bit of energy and ability from somewhere, in Europe, which they haven't shown in the league this season and they've have had a little bit of luck as well." he continued "I thought they did all right in the 0-0 draw with Celtic at Parkhead in their opening game, but they were helped by the goalkeeper saving the penalty. They did brilliantly to draw with Villarreal, but the Celtic game will be different because their fans will expect them to do well. The pressure will all be on them and I don't know if they will cope with that."

Molby knows what to expect from the Hoops "I have seen a lot of this Celtic team." he said "Sure, they lack a bit of quality in comparison with Manchester United or Chelsea, but they are a good team. I think Celtic have done extremely well in Europe in the last couple of years under Gordon Strachan getting into the last 16 but to be honest, in Denmark we are just pleased when we get a club in the Champions League."

"Aalborg are the only the third Danish club after Brondby and Copenhagen to get in." said Jan "Whenever it happens, we embrace it with both arms and enjoy it. The game against Villarreal when they lost 6-3 was a fantastic spectacle and the 2-2 draw with the Spaniards in Denmark the other night was a wonderful moment for us. It was a result they richly deserved."

Molby now works for Radio Five Live and Danish television and his knowledge and insight are well respected and he thinks Gordon Strachan's team will fare better in the UEFA Cup "I think Celtic have better players, are a better team than Aalborg and should just edge it on the night" he said "The problem Celtic face in Europe was well highlighted when they came to Old Trafford to play United. Their first game after that in Scotland was against Inverness. No disrespect, but that just doesn't prepare you properly for playing the AC Milans and Barcelonas of the world. The Champions League has become as predictable as every other league in Europe. Before a ball has been kicked, you know there are only around 12 teams that can win it."
