Lennon: Our strikers are almost there

The ex-Celtic captain was hugely disappointed by the result, of course, and it was made worse by the fact that the Huns, courtesy of their victory over Falkirk the day before, were able to remain at the top of the SPL table on goal difference, but Lennon thinks that he saw enough from the team to suggest that our scoring woes will soon be behind us.

If we keep creating the chances then the goals will come says coach Neil Lennon

Scott McDonald, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Georgios Samaras had plenty of chances to finish off Motherwell at the weekend after McDonald had put them ahead on the hour mark but although they squandered them all Lennon insists that it will all come good in the end.

"I think if we keep playing like we did on Sunday we won't have much problems with scoring." he said. "I think the goals will come as long as we're still creating the chances whereas in previous games we weren't even creating the chances. So there's a definite change in atmosphere among the boys and their intensity was good and their quality was good, the physicality was good and the athleticism was good. There are 12 games to go, a third of the season almost, so there's plenty of football left."

In the lead up to the Co-operative Insurance League Cup final the Bhoys will face St Mirren twice (once in the Homecoming Cup) and Kilmarnock and although the team will stick to their 'one game at a time' mantra Lennon is aware that the League Cup winners will give themselves a huge psychological boost in the race for the title.

"Every game is a huge game so there are always different types of pressure on each individual game and each brings its own merits," said Neil. "So we'll take each game as it comes now and I think it's a really exciting time of the season. We've given away a seven-point lead, which is disappointing from one point of view, but like I've said there's so much football to be played."

"We've got two league games before a cup final and psychologically if you win that it will give the club a huge lift." he continued. "The psychology will change from week to week, from one result to the next and as long as we find that level of consistency and start taking our chances we will be there or thereabouts."
