Its Official! Boruc signs new contract!

Last updated : 06 January 2008 By Clydebuilt

As we exclusively revealed yesterday, Artur Boruc has signed a five year extension to his existing contract that could see him remain at the club until 2011. It is also understood that Celtic also have a 'first refusal' clause embedded in this new deal.

This is a great piece of business by the Club. In securing the future of our best goalkeeper in living memory we have issued a cry of 'hands off' to all of our players' potential suitors. Whilst other teams in Scotland bend the truth by announcing that players are going nowhere (we all know that Alan Hu'n will be playing in the EPL come February) we are sorting out the future of our players here and now. Ps speaking of them, did you hear that they are talking about rebuilding the Bigot dome brick by brick? Hee hee

Anyway back to the good news regarding the chosen ones, Artur had this to say about his new contract "I'm very grateful to Celtic's management for putting their trust in me.

"That is why I accepted the new contract offered to me and I have extended it for three more years."

This is great work on the part of Peter Lawwell and Celtic. So many times in the past have we heard rumours of players wanting out of the club only for the board at the time to deny, deflect and then sell. Now that we are in a strong financial position we can afford to offer these players the contracts that they deserve in order to keep our best players.

Peter Lawwell said: "We are absolutely delighted to have successfully concluded our discussions with Artur. He is an important part of Gordon's squad and it's great news for everyone that he has committed his future to the club.

"The Celtic board will do all we can to support Gordon's plans for the development of the Celtic squad.

"This means, as well as continuing to strengthen the squad through bringing in new players, which we have already done in the past few days with the signing of German internationalist Andreas Hinkel, ensuring that key players remain here at Celtic Park."

Yours in Celtic
