It’s the final countdown – The big kick off is next weekend!

The talking is over and the action is about to begin! After a long and suprisingly entertaining preseason the SPL is about to kick off. And for the second year running the team who will be flying the league flag will have to do so after every other ball has been kicked! Scandalous!

Gordon Strachan will be unable to count on the services of three players next weekend. Shunsuke Nakamura is to be rested after his summer football exploits and Scoot McDonald is suspended for the opening two matches of the new season. There is little that WGS could have done regarding the absence of these players but one wonders why Strachan left Artur Boruc on the pitch in the match v Newcastle last week, especially since the manager was aware that he took a knock after ten minutes!

Lets hope its not a serious injury Gordon, and lets hope it wasn’t exacerbated by your inaction!

In other news, Strachan has been responding to claims that the club is in crisis yet again! Speaking to Radio Five Live the boss said, "We're the only team in the world who can be in crisis in July. I've never won three pre-season friendlies with Celtic, so this is one of the better crises we're in."

The perennial talk of Celtic being in crisis in the summer is more regular and dependable than the summer solstice and like the solstice heathens celebrate it too!

He added: "We've won four trophies in the last two years, and we were in the last 16 of the Champions League last year, and only got knocked out in extra-time to AC Milan, the eventual winners.

"But, being Scotland, that's not good enough."

"We have to win three trophies, and even then you'll probably find people saying we should have won them with more goals or with a bit more flair - but that's the world we live in here.

"Even Manchester United don't get this. English teams are allowed to lose a couple of games, but unfortunately we're not - we have to win the championship."

Such is life living in the clearer end of the goldfish bowl Gordon, are you not used to it yet?

Yours in Celtic
