Injured Ankle May Convince Naka to Head Home

Shunsuke Nakamura has commented on rumours that he is to return home to Japan sooner rather than later. It was reported on Friday morning that his old Club - Yokohama Marinos are lining up a 3M plus bid to lure Nakamura home in January.

Nakamura's contract with Celtic expires next year but it is believed that Yokohama - who are heavily backed by Car giants Nissan are not prepared to wait till their season has started to procure Naka's services.

Naka has also hinted that problems with his fitness have been exacerbated by the Scottish weather, citing problems with his right ankle from damp conditions.

Nakamura said "I have heard these stories but it's a question for my agent.

"I want to play football for a long time but at the moment my right ankle is giving me problems. I have to get it heavily strapped before every game I play in.

"I want to be the best I can be and I'm not able to do that right now. It is frustrating.

"Even my corner that led to Stephen McManus scoring our first goal against Hibs was a mistake because I slipped as I kicked the ball. It was a mis-hit."

It would appear that Friday's story was true given that the player has now confirmed the story. It would also appear that Celtic have given Yokohama permission to speak to the players agent given the quote above.

I don't think that there are many fans that would stop Nakamura from leaving early and returning home. He has been a great servant to the Club and has given us many moments of joy and entertainment. I think even those who feel that he is too lightweight or that he lacks conviction in the tackle will acknowledge the contribution he has made to three in a row.

I for one hope that by the time he leaves we are well on our way to four in a row!

Yours in Celtic
