GREEDY MOTHERWELL TURF OUT SEASON TICKET HOLDERS

Last updated : 18 March 2002 By
In a cynical attempt to cash in on the Celtic success story Motherwell football club have gone to drastic lengths to squeeze every single last drop of cash that they can get from the Celtic travelling support. To do this they are quite willing to turf their regular season ticket holders out of their own seats in the Davie Cooper Stand for the imminent clash between the clubs at Fir Park

Motherwell chairman has sent all season ticket holders a letter, which you can read below, confirming the unilateral action.

In the letter he clearly emphasises that here is a chance to fleece the Celtic fans of as much money as they can and the thoughts of his own supporters seem to have been cast aside as Motherwell attempt to milk the occasion for all it is worth.

It will also be intersting to see the price of the tickets for the match, which could very well be the tile decider.

The letter ...

If over the last few years you have attended matches played here at Fir Park against the Old Firm, you will be aware that, for a range of reasons, home support attendance has slowly dwindled. This has impacted on gate receipts and the Club's ability to continue to fund and develop our Youth Development Programme.

For some time we have been thinking of what can be done. I write to you now to ask your help and assistance. We have an opportunity at the forthcoming match against Celtic to release some Cooper Stand seating to away support. The income generated will be sufficient, for example, to completely fund a further two youth teams for a full year, to pay number of additional apprentices or for matter purchase another mini bus to transport players and youth teams to matches throughout Scotland.

To release the North Eastern Block approximately 1000 seats, we must ask you to relocate within the Cooper Stand. Our aim is to keep you inconvenience to the absolute minimum therefore wherever possible we have tried to relocate you to a seat with similar sight lines. In addition and in some small recompense I am please to invite you to make use, at no extra cost, of a seat with half time tea and match programme, within one of the Cooper Boxes at a game following the split in the league. You will appreciate that we will do everything in our power to ensure that we can fit you in on your preferred game and to make arrangements I would ask you to call Wendy MacFarlane on 01698 338008 and she will do everything she can to accommodate you.

Unlike other clubs in the Scottish Premier League this is the first time we have asked Season Ticket holders to assist by relocating. I trust that we can count on your understanding and support. We have made arrangements to clearly segregate the fans and to separate turnstiles, toilets, catering and emergency exits. I can assure you that additional policing and stewarding staff will be on hand to allow you to enjoy the game.

Enclosed is a ticket which you should surrender together with your normal season ticket voucher should you intend to attend on the night.

Regards

John Boyle
Chairman
