Friday Mornings Do Not Come Better Than This.

Oh what a morning! Yes the weather is mince and summer is all but over, however the news emanating from Wales this morning is that Cardiff has agreed terms with Celtic over the signing of Dutch defender Glenn Loovens, that David Murray will not walk away from Rangers and that the Daily Record is now in negative equity in terms of credibility are enough to cheer even the most depressed souls.

Firstly Loovens. It has been widely reported over the last 12 hours in the Welsh press that the 24 year-old defender will sign for Celtic today with the official unveiling of the player to be announced on Monday. Whilst Loovens was obviously not our first choice pick for this position it is great to gazump Rangers once more in the race to sign a player. As Paul said on the forum, one wonders how much Celtic are paying Wattie and Sally for their scouting expertise.

And next we go to David Murray. The Rangers Chairman yesterday made a statement from his bunker somewhere in the Afghan mountains that was streamed live via Rangers official website, quintessentiallysecondbest.com in which he stated that whilst he was looking to get away from Rangers but will not walk away until he finds a suitable replacement. Quite who would be prepared to purchase an ailing football club with little or no growth potential that has sold its merchandising rights to an equally financially disabled sports retailer is beyond everyone, and probably also Murray.

Rumours that the Rangers supremo is in talks with Picture Loans to do their next commercial are unconfirmed at this time. You can just see it though cant you. David Murray on the phone speaking to Mike from picture happy in the fact that that Martin Bain will not have a lot of paper work to do. "One less thing for her to worry about" states Murray, happy in the fact that Martin 'Smithers' Bain will not have lots of forms to fill in. A little rain never hurt anyone David did it? With a bit of luck the rain may cause Saturday's tie with Hearts to be postponed and you won't have to listen to the 'people' protesting.

And finally, it has been revealed by Wolves Boss Jez Moxely that the story which appeared in yesterdays Daily Record relating to an attempt by wolves to sign Bobo Balde was a complete fabrication. The man with the best name in football said that the reports linking the player to Wolves were completely fabricated and that no-one from Wolves had been in contact with Celtic or the player concerned.

Whilst I am quite happy to rejoice in the fact that the Record has again been shown up it is not without lament. The state of Sports journalism in the Country which produced great writers such as Hugh McIlvanney, Archie McPherson and Arthur Montford to name but a few recent luminaries is now at its lowest ebb. It wouldn't have anything to do with a certain media group owned by a certain business man currently ensconced in his bunker would it?

Yours in Celtic
