For every pound they earned, we earned 30!

Life seemed to take on a new edge of tranquillity this week. The permanently raging had a new signing to parade that actually cost them money, and of course they all got their exercise at the weekend. All was well with the world. So it must have caused them to come down to earth with a bang, with the good work done by all those little endorphins cancelled out in one fell swoop with the release of this months UEFA Direct publication and more importantly the news contained therein.

As one flicks the pages (or scrolls the PDF!) one happens upon page 6. This shows a table of all the teams that participated in last seasons Champions League, in order of group. Next to each team there is information on how much monies that member club earned during the campaign, in Euros.

To save one time and brainpower, the good people of EUFA have supplied us with a total.

Here is Celtics – 15 688 000! In the good old Pounds Sterling that equates to £10.5M! Not a bad result that now is it?

One then flicks the cyber pages to have a cursory glance at how the other Scottish teams fared, so it was off to page eight we went. Again for our convenience, and to show us that the still love us UEFA have decided to again make life easier for TGFITW by putting the Rangers result right at the top of the page (OK that one was a coincidence)

As one glances at the results of our cash strapped cousins, on can but stifle a titter or two.

450 000

Ill repeat that for clarity

450 000

That is the paltry sum of £304,785 or roughly the equivalent of one year’s payment for a Kilmarnock striker. I couldn’t resist the thought of David Murray explaining how we would finance the deal.

"Well we got the first payment from our involvement in Europe’s premier competition for losers, and we hope to gain roughly the same monies this season… "

"Brother Jeffries? Brother Jeffries? Are you still there?

HA HA

With Celtics turnover expected to reach an unprecedented £80M, the future is looking very rosy for us
