CUP FINAL PREVIEW

The old firm come face to face again on Saturday as the clubs meet for the fifteenth time in a Scottish cup final.

As in the last old firm game, which finished in a 1-1 draw at Celtic Park, injuries will dictate the selection of both managers and this time Celtic seem to have the more severe problems on that front.

There is talk that Bobo Balde may be able to make his comeback in this game but having not played for several weeks he can hardly be match fit and although a hastily arranged practice match took place on Thursday I still can't see the big defender featuring.

Paul Lambert is looking like he might win his fitness battle but I have a feeling that O'Neill will leave any selections right up until the last minute to give the influential midfielder every opportunity to make it into the team.

The defence remains O'Neill's biggest headache and it looks likely that Tom Boyd will play alongside Johan Mjallby and Stephen Crainey. Young Crainey has coped well with his first team starts this season and will be full of confidence going into this game. However, the lack of pace in Celtic's rearguard is alarming and it may be that O'Neill may break with tradition and select a back four in order to cope with the pace of the Rangers attack.

As with all old firm games though, the battle will be won or lost in the middle of the park and that is why the inclusion of Lambert is essential to Celtic. His loss would be A major blow to Celtic and O'Neill will be praying that he makes it.

It would be nice too, to see Chris Sutton restored to the Celtic attack, but again the player has been missing for several weeks and is badly in need of match practice. O'Neill might even play Sutton in defence should he be fit.

The game is very difficult to call, there is not much between the sides and I can't see there being an abundance of goals. If Celtic can cash in on early opportunities than I can see them winning it as long as the chances are take. The longer the game goes goal – less then the more confident the Ibrox men will become.

I will refrain from my usual forecast on this one, as I just can't separate the teams. A fully fit Celtic would win the game but the injuries are taking their toll and leaving a huge opportunity open for Rangers.
