Confident Vennegoor not fearful of place as Strachan pitches battle on dull football

Celtic Striking 'enigma' Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink has today stated that there is room in the team for all three first choice strikers. The competition for striking jerseys was made all the more complicated with the signing and debut performance of new bhoy Georgios Samaras.

This is not a problem however for JVH. Many predicted that Samaras would automatically slot in beside 20-goal Scott McDonald due to the big Dutchman's less than impressive showings, but with Strachan opting to give Samaras his debut at the expense of McDonald instead of Big Jan then maybe the manager is looking at all the permutations available with having three international strikers at the club. Although trying to second guess this manager is as pointless and crazy as a bottle of chips!

On the current situation Jan said, "I think I can play with anyone, I think I can play with the three of us together but it depends what system you play.

"With all the games coming up I think the manager is happy to have so many choices."

And so are the supporters, so far Big Jan has given a decent return with plenty of goals, but I cant remember too many of them being important match winning strikes, but he has failed thus far to show that he is capable of consistent performances and that he is able and willing to get involved in the play other than inside the box. Must try harder.

In other news, Gordon Strachan has blamed the state of the pitches in the winter months for the lack of entertaining football and has indicated that the state of the pitch at Rugby Park helped his side skelp Kilmarnock 5-1. (a result that most of the journalists have failed to give us credit for, even the one who tipped Kilmarnock before the match).

The notion that the state of the pitch can affect a teams passing game stands up to scrutiny quite well, until you remember that the Groundskeepers at Celtic Park consistently win awards for the state of the playing surface and its been a while since we saw a team getting turned over there isn't it Gordon?

Yours in Celtic
