Commons recalled for Scotland after duo pull out

Commons had been controversially left out of the original squad for the matches against Wales on Friday and Belgium next Tuesday despite being in fine form for Scottish champions Celtic this season.

But Scotland coach Craig Levein decided to bring Commons back into the fold after Norwich midfielder Snodgrass and Blackburn striker Rhodes were both forced to pull out with ankle problems.

Commons was named in a Scotland squad for their friendly against Denmark earlier this season, but didn't appear in the match due to injury, meaning his last international appearance came in a friendly defeat by Brazil in March 2011.

Everton midfielder Steven Naismith had already been ruled out of the squad after being handed a two-match FIFA ban for elbowing Serbia's Srdjan Mijailovic while Blackburn defender Grant Hanley pulled out on Monday with a groin strain.
