Celtics midfield options may be limited if TG goes.

As the news starts to filter through that TG may be persuaded to join Bryan Robson’s Sheffield United and with Jarosik destined to also head for the exit door that will beg the question; who will be forming the engine room partnership next season.

Obvious contenders will be our mains signings so far this season, Donati and Brown. I feel these guys could be the backbone of a strong side for the next few years to come, but what shape will our midfield take and how many players will be held within it?

If the two misfits are to leave then we will be left with 4 central midfielders at the Club (Not including Capone) but in Sno and Bjarnasson we have two talented but inexperienced players.

What shape do you think the midfield should take next season? Should Brown be pushed out wide and Naka utilised more centrally or should Skoosh take the anchor role?

I would use the AC Milan midfield as a model, Donati would take on the holding (Ambrosini) role with Brown playing the fetch and carry (Gattusso) role. I would then swap Naka and McGeady over to play in the roles that their stronger foot dictates.

This would appear to be the most robust shape but would it be creative enough? Were the lack of crosses into the box last season and the resultant paucity of goalmouth chances due to our two wide players being played on the wrong flanks?

These are questions that will be debated until the season starts. Let’s hope Gordon knows the answers by then!
