Celtic-Mad Fan Focus

Damian Scott from Leeds is this week's Celtic-Mad Fan Focus. He filled in his details by clicking HERE. Each week we will have a different supporter on the site.

Below is a little about Damian, and a picture of him and friends in Seville.

I am Damian Scott from Leeds, and my username is Bigchipsuk. I am actually English by birth (unfortunately), but as my parents moved to Scotland as soon as I was discharged from hospital following my birth, I grew up in Scotland… and I consider myself to be Scottish. Alas, I have now moved back to England and delight in winding my English colleagues up about their “fantastic” league and national team at every opportunity. The aftermath of the France v England game has been simply fantastique!

I am 39 years old and have supported the hoops since I was about 4 or 5. Sadly I was just too young to be aware of such things when the Lisbon Lions achieved their ultimate success, but I made sure I got to the UEFA Cup Final in Seville, paying around £2,000 all in to get myself and my partner Luisa to Spain for a week with match tickets in hand. We met up with my brother Nick and his wife Joan at their hotel in Seville, and we headed off for the match together, complete with “war paint”. There we are in the photo getting ready to head off to the best match since 1967 at the Estadio Olympico (L-R) Luisa, myself, Joan and Nick.

My brother is lucky enough to live in Glasgow and has a season ticket. Sadly I live too far away and only get to the occasional game now. I am not a member of a supporters club, although when I lived in Scotland I used to attend matches with the St Ninians CSC from Stirling.

My favourite current player is Stilian Petrov, given that Henke is now to be classified as my favourite past player (deposing Brian McClair from this position). Stan is such a hard worker and has great talent, often dictating games in spite of his still somewhat tender age! As for my favourite non-Celtic player, I could go for Henke again, but I won’t… I’ll go with Thierry Henry, always the first player onto my fantasy league selections. He is such a complete player, probably the best of my generation. And such an ambassador off the pitch too. If only he were a Bhoy!

To sum up Celtic in five words: It’s a way of life.
