Celtic have been selected to host Scotland's opening game of the 2008 European championship against the Faroes on September 2nd.
Aberdeen had a strong bid rejected and David Taylor said “I would like to publicly acknowledge the strong bid from Aberdeen to stage the match at Pittodrie, but we anticipate the crowd for the opening match of the Euro 2008 campaign will require a larger stadium".

It is common knowledge that the opening game of the championships is of the utmost importance and Celtic park will certainly have a better atmosphere than any other Scottish club ground. Ibrox seems to be ruled out of the picture due to the fact that a large number of Rangers supporters tend to support England rather than Scotland and The playing of Land of hope and glory and the dambusters march along with the waving of R.A.F flags (in front of their German goalkeeper) before their home games certainly lends credence to that. Celtic although being fiercely proud of their Irish roots are still seen to be the best team alongside Aberdeen to represent Scotland.
