Celtic has announced today that they will donate a sizeable amount to a charity based in Manchester.

Francis House, a registered charity based in the East Didsbury area of the City offers respite care to families with Children suffering from Cancer and gives the Children "a loving home from home".

Francis House, like many Children's Hospices around the country only receives a paltry amount of funding from the government and has to supplement 96% of its required income by means of fund raising events.

Peter Lawwell released the following statement: "Celtic was established in 1888 to assist people in need and we are delighted that Celtic's charitable focus remains so strong today, with the Club's charity fund raising around £2m to date.

"As guests in Manchester next week, it is fitting that Celtic Football Club makes this gesture to Francis House, a most deserving beneficiary which does such great work in the city.

"I know that Francis House is also a charity which is close to Manchester United Football Club and we are pleased to add our backing to such a great cause.

"We look forward to visiting Manchester next week. We are sure our fans will travel to Manchester once again with the aim of supporting the club positively and we hope everyone enjoys another fantastic meeting between our two great clubs.

"Once again, we would like to thank the city of Manchester in advance for hosting our Club and our supporters."

David Ireland, Chief Executive of Francis House, added: "Francis House is really grateful to Celtic Charity Fund for donating this generous sum of money.

"It's great that this has happened through a game with Manchester United who are also one of our charity partners.

"This donation will make a significant difference to children struggling with life threatening conditions and their families from all over the North West of England."
