Celtic Release Statement On 'green Brigade-gate'

Celtic Football Club has released a statement in relation to the spurious claims by many members of the green brigade that they were being targeted by the club for carrying out a protest at last saturday's match.

members of the brigade and affiliates thereof staged a walkout protest against the clubs decision to accede to the spl's request for all member clubs to display a poppy on their jerseys to remember the fallen in the first world war.

during wednesday nights tie with kilmarnock several fans were ejected from the ground in an area traditionally occupied by members of the green brigade. plenty of members of this group were quick to claim that they were being targeted by the club due to their protest, but the club has today stated the real reasons why they were asked to leave

"In response to inquiries received by the Club today, Celtic Football Club can confirm that a number of people were ejected from the stadium during last night's match at Celtic Park.

"This was mainly due to the fact that these supporters were in the wrong areas of the stadium and followed numerous complaints from other season ticket holders close by.

"No supporters have been banned. However, each individual will be written to with regards to this issue and be given advice on how to conduct themselves within the stadium in the future.

"These ejections were completely unrelated to last Saturday's match."

There you have it then, no ejections in relation to an imperialistic board, or the colour of a person's skin or indeed a campaign in relation to the away fans songbook, just celtic being proactive in dealing with many complaints in relation to overcrowding in this section.

I for one hope that the club can work together with this group of supporters to achieve a mutually advantageous outcome. as i have said previously they do bring a great atmosphere to matches and when they decide to positively support the club they do so in an innovative and expressive manner that is to be applauded. who can forget the excellent 'scotlands shame' banner for one example of their potential brilliance?
