CELTIC HEAD ACROSS THE RIVER LOOKING FOR THREE IN A ROW

Not since the heady days of the early seventies have Celtic been able to chalk up three wins in a row at Ibrox Stadium.

Back then, Kenny Dalglish was just breaking into the Celtic first side alongside other youngsters such as Lou Macari and Davie Hay. In fact, the vintage of 1971 managed to achieve the trio of wins within a month. They comprised of two league cup sectional ties and a league encounter.

Sunday afternoon in Glasgow sees Celtic given the opportunity to emulate those heroes of a byegone era and almost certainly tie up the league title into the bargain.

To get the trio of wins under their belt Celtic and Martin O'Neill will have to hope that the injury crisis, that has surrounded the club for the last couple of weeks, starts to clear. At least he will be able to call on the services of the free to play John Hartson and it must be hoped that Henrik Larsson will return to first team duty as well.

It is in defence, though, that Celtic have been hit the hardest with Balde, Valgaren and Sutton all missing on Saturday. Martin O'Neill will be desperate to get at least two of that duo back on the field of play come Sunday.

In a worse case scenario Celtic may have to rely on the services of veteran defender and club captain Tommy Boyd. The elder statesman of the Parkehad dressing room acquited himself well on Saturday, in the 1-0 win over the Dons, and must feel he is ready to play his part should he be needed.

Sunday's live SKY game kicks off at 12 noon.
