Boruc to Answer Derby Game Charge

Artur Boruc will be asked to explain his gestures to the Rangers Support at a special purposes meeting of the SFA's review panel on the 16th September and may face a charge of improper conduct.

A statement on the SFA's website read: "Press photographs showing the player making a one-fingered gesture were considered by the review panel.

"The player has been called to appear before the disciplinary committee at its next meeting.

"Before the meeting, the player has to respond with his comments on the alleged misconduct and to the material considered by the review panel.

"If the disciplinary committee finds the player to be guilty of improper conduct, it may impose any penalty on the player."

Whilst I understand that the SFA must discharge its responsibilities on such matters accordingly I would hope that special dispensation is afforded to the player who was subjected to sickening taunts throughout the match.

It was revealed by a sensationalist Sunday Tabloid on the morning of the match that Artur was undergoing domestic problems with his wife and as a result his marriage was a target for derision by members of the away support.

Whilst this does not vindicate the player's action in responding to such provocation, it can surely be used as mitigating circumstances in such matters and should be admitted and considered as such and the charge should not be upheld under this state of affairs.

Any decision to the contrary of this would surely see the player unjustly punished in my opinion and I hope that he would get the full legal backing of not only the Club but also of the Players Union representatives.

If only Sir Robert Kelly were still with us.

Yours in Celtic
