Boruc Blow for Celts. Artur Wishes to leave in the summer

Last updated : 11 December 2007 By Clydebuilt

I have to say that I am saddened by this news today. Artur Boruc is the greatest Celtic Keeper I have ever had the pleasure to watch in my 30 plus years being blessed with Celtic as my team.

The news today that there are quotes attributable to Artur intimating that he will leave the Club in the summer is a blow for all supporters of Celtic. Artur was quoted in the Herald as saying "I have decided I am going to leave Celtic in the summer," said Boruc today. "Celtic want more than £10million for me but I think it is too much. There is much to look forward to with the Champions League in spring and then the European Championship in the summer, but many things can change and I have to see what is best for me."

Once you recover from the initial shock of that statement and delve a little deeper the sentence that reads "Celtic want more than £10million for me…" hints that maybe Celtic are aware of Artur’s intentions.

Maybe his knee injury is not as bad as it has been made out and the player has been afforded some time to consider his future. Having watched him pensively kick the ball during the Shakhtar tie however would suggest that his injury has, at worst arrived at a 'convenient' time for him.

The news is clouded however by the repeat of the news that Boruc’s representatives are looking into exploiting the Article 17 regulation that saw Andy Webster secure his departure from Hearts.

This indicates that the possibly Artur has approached the Club with a transfer request that has been refused and he has decided to force the Clubs hand with this threat. Either that or he has been approached illegally with a view to securing his services on the cheap.

Either way Celtic need to ensure that we profit as much as possible for the talented international. If Artur does want to leave then the Club should be putting him up for transfer and starting a biding war come the first of January.

There definitely seems to be more than meets the eye with this story. One hopes that this is an indication of the lack of truth in the story

Yours in Celtic
