And the Award for the Most Stupid Story of the Transfer Period Goes To...

Last updated : 27 June 2008 By Clydebuilt

Regular readers (Hi Mum) of these pages will remember an article earlier this week that displayed my annoyance at the rumour mongering that goes on in the media these days, and the love hate relationship I have with the transfer period in general. As I cast my weary eyes over the Newsnow pages today I was hit with a headline that blew me away with the sheer depth of crazy that was apparent within the article. It was, quite literally a coffee-meet-monitor moment of vast proportions.

And I can confirm that it was not the story that had been doing the rounds earlier in the week that Alex Ferguson was prepared to allow Cristiano Ronaldo to move to Ibrox on loan.

Here is the headline:

Celtic could offer McGeady in attempt to sign Spurs flop Bent

I will allow you a second to digest this..

Just so you don't think you imagined it..

Celtic could offer McGeady in attempt to sign Spurs flop Bent

WHAT? Before we look into the story in more depth, why would the article writer (not brave enough to put his name to it) feel the need to spin the story to allege that the player is a dud?

So as I understand the article, it would appear that Celtic are about to spend big on Darren Bent and use Aiden McGeady as a make-weight in the deal? How can anyone bring themselves to write such utter nonsense (a question I ask of myself regularly)? Is it any wonder that the article is anonymous?

I have to say that I quite like the Metro paper. Yes it is just regurgitated stories from other papers (another moment of self reflection) but the letters page that is based on the now legendary letters page of Viz always entertain and it is usually presents the majority of its news stories without bias or spin, but I for one will never buy this paper again! (lol)

Yours in Celtic
