Dundee United v Celtic
Bank Of Scotland SPL
Sunday 3rd October 2004
Tannadice Stadium, Dundee
Kick Off 2pm, Live On Setanta SPL

One could argue that playing Celtic on the back of a sickening midweek European result is the best time to come up against us. Yes, we will be tired, and will have to pick ourselves up from the disappointment that was Milan, andyou could say there is a chance to kick us when we are down.

On the other hand, a backlash awaits. So close to a point in the San Siro on Wednesday, after becoming the first Scottish team ever to score there, The Bhoys will be out to slaughter the first thing that has the cheek to come up against us. It could be a horrible day for Dundee United on Sunday.

Wednesday night is over and done with; we were unlucky but we have to move on and forget about it.

Tannadice is always a tricky one to predict. In truth, since Martin O'Neill's first game in charge in 2000 (a 2-1 victory for The Hoops), we have never struggled at the ground. But prior to each game there, there's always a worry in my head that there might be an upset. I suppose, I share that feeling for most away games but there's just something about Dundee United away which I always feel nervous about.

Okay, I'm sounding silly and shouldn't be worrying about a side like Dundee United.

But with the state of our defence and our bad habit of making stupid mistakes at vital times in games, there is always reason to worry. On Sunday, I would like to see Stephen McManus getting a start in defence. There is no point in going with guys like Valgaeren when we should be bringing quicker and better players of a younger age. Valgaeren did come on to a game in the San Siro, after one potentially costly mistake, but the guy is simply too old and slow.

Ulrik Laursen might be in with a chance of a game as well, we need to try these squad players out and whoever fits the bill should play in the big games. It's as simple as that.

We hear David Marshall is doubtful for the game so Rab Douglas may make a rare start. With Alan Thompson out, there is a space to be filled. Juninho will probably start but Stephen Pearson, Ross Wallace and Aiden McGeady will all be looking for a game.

I am looking forward to the game and I hope that the Celtic support can give their full backing to the team on the park. Once again, though, Celtic Ticket Services have made a right arse of ticket distribution for the game. It seems that every member of staff in this place has a different story to tell, but apparently, tickets can be bought from Dundee United this afternoon (Saturday). Though I am sure there will be plenty of spares outside the ground.

Enjoy the game and here's to a Hoops' victory.

Come On The Hoops!

Prediction:
Dundee United 1-4 Celtic

Hardly The San Siro
