Celtic plan to extend capacity to 80,000

Plans are in place to increase the capacity of Paradise to over 80,000 The complete rebuild of the south stand is high on the priorities of Celtic and architectural plans are said to be already in place. The south stand has been in place since 1929 and despite a beautiful brick extension built by Lang, willis, and Galloway in the centenary year of 1988 this stand is still very far from being classed as modern. Celtic are needing more and more office space and it is thought that an indoor warmup area for the players is included in the plans.

Celtic are sure that on European nights and many league games they could fill an 80000 capacity stadium and the word behind the scenes is that the new extension has been touted as a boost for Scotlands commonwealth games bid. Celtic are worried about spiralling build costs and are looking to do the rebuild sooner rather than later.

Plans for a marble facelift for the South stand which have been in place for a few years have been shelved and a New Glass fronted showpiece is thought to be the favourite. It seems like someone at Celtic has decided that the Manchester United design is the way forward. I wonder who that could be.
